Now that the twins are a little older, they're each into their own things.  Like for instance, one is really, REALLY into Scooby-Doo.  This cake was a huge pain in the ass.  First of all, see how many different colors I had to mix?  Second of all, it was my first experience with different texturing.  It took me a good number of hours and more than the recommended dosage of ibuprofen, but I think he looks pretty awesome.

 Now the other girls loves Pablo from The Backyardigans.  I myself love this show - especially the pirate episode.

This is What Happens

This is what happens when I decide to do a freehand cake.  Our good friend joined our church and we had a little celabratory dinner and of coarse being the cakemeister that I am, the family wanted me to make a cake.  Hmmmmm...what do you say about someone joining your church other than "Yay!"

I told you freehand is not my forte'.

1...2...3...My Mommy

My mom does tons and tons for us so when she said she wanted a Count cake, I could not deny her.  Once again, he was a retired pan and let's be clear, I'm not good with free hand anything and don't trust myself with a knife let alone cutting a cake shape.  So back to ebay I went (which has now confirmed my love of ebay when looking for great cake pans).  Once again I had to download the directions which were as old as sesame street itself, but I managed to figure it out ok.  She loved it...at least she said she did.

That Skusband of Mine

You guessed it!  Time for another Halloween themed birthday cake for my husband.  He loves skulls...we all do actually.  Once again, we had a haunted house get together with friends and and had some yummy chocolate skull cake to go with it.  This is a tiny pan, so I had to make some skupcakes to go along with it.

Wonder Woman

When my oldest turned 4, she was into super heroes (probably because of her dad...ok, ok, and me).  She had a bunch of 12-inch figures so I started my ebay search for a super hero pan.

Who knew these pans became collector's items?  I got the Wonder Woman vintage 1970-something pan at a whopping $30 which was cheap compared to the other ones AND mine came in the original box with the original directions!

This was was difficult.  While it came with a face, I didn't want to have a plastic face - I thought I could do my own face and I did.  The nose however, was a bit on the difficult side.  But again, - she's 4 and it tastes delish!

I now am in love with buttercream!

Twins's 2nd Birthday

My mom made our twin's 1st birthday cakes.  On their 2nd birthday, I didn't want to bog her down with the responsibility, and I certainly didn't want to pay for two cakes. I started researching.

One of the girls was Mickey Mouse's biggest fan and the other didn't have anything that really interested her yet.  I googled "Mickey Mouse Cake" and came across a picture quite similar to mine...on a less cool plate.  I thought, "this looks pretty easy", so I ordered a Mickey pan off of ebay.  It didn't come with instructions so I had to download them.

After studying them, I took a trip to Michaels and got some frosting colors, tips, and frosting bags.  I was nervous, but figured they're only two and you can't really screw up Mickey Mouse...that bad.

Still not knowing what kind of cake to make for the other girl, I pooled my resources....same colors, same tips, same pan, and whala!  Minnie Mouse!

Love at First Bake

My first experience with cake decorating came in 2006, when my husband and I planned a trip to a haunted house with our friends and a small party afterward for his birthday.  Ho can you not have a birthday cake for such and occasion, and since it's so close to Halloween, this was the product.  The spider is rubber...I was a beginner sheesh!

Anyway, from this cake grew my love of cake making...that and not wanting to buy two cakes for my twin's birthday every year.
